california in july

I dropped my registration for the 2003 SHARP conference in the mail today. SHARP (the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing) is a great organization and a great conference. They publish a very interesting annual, Book History, and the range of paper topics at their annual conferences is amazing, as you can see by the programs for the 2001 and 2002 meetings. I’ll be giving a paper entitled “John Wesley’s Magazine Publishing Career, 1778-1791,” and with any luck, I’ll take a trip to the Huntingdon Library.

Maybe I’ll even take a “research” trip to the beach.

  1. I’ve yet to make it to a SHARP, even though it seems like an obvious venue.
Definitely check out the Huntington–not only for the famous library, but also the splendid, sprawling botantical gardens. The cactus grove is the highlight.

  2. SHARP really is a great conference, Matt, and it’s crying out for for you to come!
Thanks for the tip about the Huntington. I’ve heard great things about the gardens, and their website even features a page with images from their gardens.
Alas, no cactus grove pix, though.
