This is lovely and so true. Richard Dawkins published a book several years ago called “The Selfish Gene” that explores the concept of evolution from the perspective of the genes rather than from the perspective of the organism. We’ve got miles of DNA that has no apparent function – at least to us – that hitches along every time our cells divide and we reproduce. The book is a terrific read for anyone with interest in evolution – no scientific degress are required!
