i’m giddy with anticipation

As Heidi and BlogKC point out, the new downtown library opens tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. I’m pretty darned excited:

  • Beautiful, historic building
  • Free wireless
  • Opens at 7:00 a.m.
  • Cafe
  • Rooftop terrace
  • 5-minute walk from my apartment

I’ve never lived this close to a library before, much less one as grand as this. I know where I’ll be spending a lot of time this summer. Oh, and this just cements my belief that development in downtown Kansas City is going to explode in the next decade or so. If you can afford to buy a condo, do so now.

Some things are not ready, yet, like the cafe (which will serve espresso drinks!), so perhaps the network is similarly unfinished.
They’re open until 9 on MTW! They have hours on the weekends, which will allow me to work then, too, but they’re limited hours, which will encourage me to do some fun stuff with my weekends, too.
It’s probably more like a 3-minute walk from my apartment.
I don’t know much about the collection, but I did accidentally find their graphic novel section, which surprised me with its quality and breadth of selection.
All in all, I’m still giddy.

  2. Library geek and proud of it

Like the good library geek that I am, I ended up going to the new downtown library three times today: one quick stop on my way in to work just to see it, one walk over at lunch with a

  3. Doing some work at the central KC library this afternoon. There’s a very strong WiFi signal on the first floor as part of the Flash Network. Unfortunately, the signal on the third floor, where the desks are, is not so great.
