Kerry: “Let me give the president a compliment. Sir, your butt looks great in that suit.”

faith
What role does your faith play in your decisions?
Bush talks about the importance of prayer, but then turns to the importance of tolerating diverse religions. An admirable sentiment, but I think the underlying assumption behind the question is that Christ preached a message of peace. Bush is answering it as if the underlying assumption is that he’s a religious bigot.
If Kerry uses the word “respect” one more time, I’m going to hurl. Also makes a nod toward religious tolerance. Students snicker at his reference to being blessed by Native Americans. “As president I will always respect everybody’s right to practice as they choose, or not to practice, if that’s their choice.”
Hmm. The last part of this statement seems like something that deserves more discussion in this forum.
Nope. They’re on to something else, now.
affirmative action
Ouch. Kerry says that Bush hasn’t met with the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus, or any of the Civil Rights leaders in America. If our president won’t reach out to include others, what chance do we have to make progress?
Bush: That’s not true that I haven’t met with the Congressional Black Caucus.
Um….good… try?

bush on education
When asked about the minimum wage, Bush starts talking about the No Child Left Behind Act, emphasizing the importance of standards, and never addresses the question. Two responses:
- So…the reason people don’t earn more money is because they are stupid?
- Ixnay on the andardstay. People know about your record in school.
He quotes someone saying, “Reading is the new civil right.” Mr. President, why don’t you exercise your civil rights?
